The Lisbon International Advertising Festival (LIAF) announced its ambition to become one of the major global annual advertising festivals and is welcoming agencies to enter their best work and to compete for awards. It will take place in Lisbon on September 14, 2016 at the Cinema São Jorge and be the first edition of the new creative festival of global reach.
What differentiates LIAF from other festivals is that it has two groups of judges: A ‘Grand Jury’ that will vote online and be responsible for choosing the shortlists in each category and an ‘Executive Jury’ which will meet in person in Lisbon in order to select the final big winners.
LIAF aim to reward the best creatives on an international scale and intends to be, as of now, "the most local of all global festivals", since in addition to the regular prizes given by category, there are also Local LIAFs that will award prizes to the best entries in each region and category.
Besides the awards ceremony, the event will also include several conferences with some of the biggest names in the creative advertising industry. Just recently, the organizer proudly announced the Brazilian creative Washington Olivetto as President of the Executive Jury.
Olivetto is not only the Chairman of the Brazilian agency W/McCann and the Chief Creative Officer of McCann Worldgroup for Latin America and the Caribbean, but one of the most popular figures in Brazil and a worldwide advertising icon, who has won over 50 Lions in Cannes - only in the Film category. In 2014, he was honored with the Clio Lifetime Achievement Award and last year inducted into the "Hall of Fame" of "The One Club", in New York, making him the first non-Anglo-Saxon to achieve that.
In the coming weeks, LIAF will announce the remaining members of the Executive Jury, as well as the professionals who will be part of the Grand Jury.
