tuv2016 marks the 150th anniversary of TÜV SÜD, a company that aim to support customers with a comprehensive suite of services worldwide to increase efficiency, reduce costs and manage risk.

Today, the global testing, inspection, certification and training provider inaugurated its new Digital Service Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore at a joint inauguration ceremony with the Singapore Economic Development Board, making it the first operational center of its kind to be established outside of TÜV SÜD’s global headquarters in Germany and reinforcing its pivotal role as a future-oriented company shaping industry “next practice”.

With an investment of over $40 million within the next three years and an expected strength of over 50 people, this CoE will specialize in providing solutions for new technologies, involving predictive data analytics, industrial cyber security and functional safety for evolving smart market segments, such as smart infrastructure and Industry 4.0.

tuv“The future of the global economy is digital”, said Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Stepken, Chairman of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG, at the opening of TÜV SÜD’s new Digital Service Centre of Excellence in Singapore, emphasizing at the same time that digital transformation will present enterprises with huge challenges.

In the light of the rise of Industry 4.0 and the proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) within the industrial space, digitization is bringing about advances in contemporary automation, data exchange and manufacturing technologies. By developing new services and solutions, TÜV SÜD helps companies to use the opportunities of digitization and minimize the risks involved in increased connectivity. The new Singapore-based Centre of Excellence will act as a trailblazer in the international service provider’s global digitization strategy.

“Digital transformation is poised to bring about a gamut of opportunities and challenges, making companies more susceptible to digital threats and cyber loopholes, while revolutionizing the way businesses and organizations work and preparing them for the next phase of industrial growth”, explains Dr. Andreas Hauser, Head of TÜV SÜD’s Digital Service Centre for Excellence in Singapore. “The key objective of our CoE involves the integration of TÜV SÜD’s competency in functional safety and industrial cyber security. By immersing ourselves into a spectrum of digital projects, we will develop bespoke services to enhance digital transformation.”

The Digital Service CoE of TÜV SÜD is aligned with Singapore’s Smart Nation vision – to integrate technology into the management of infrastructure and industries, with the aim to improve the lives of citizens, drive labor productivity and achieve greater operational-efficiencies. Companies looking to capitalize on these emerging technological trends can work with TÜV SÜD through its Digital Service CoE in Singapore, to co-innovate verification, and potentially certification, methods for new solutions to ensure they are suitable for large scale deployment and commercialization.

“We are pleased that TÜV SÜD’s new Digital Service CoE will contribute to Singapore’s vision to be a Smart Nation. As Singapore pushes for our urban infrastructure and industries to become smarter and more resource-efficient, we look forward to TÜV SÜD developing new methods of verifying and certifying advanced technologies related to Internet of Things and smart systems”, said Managing Director, Economic Development Board, Mr Yeoh Keat Chuan. “We are confident this new CoE will contribute to the vibrancy of the Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) sector in Singapore, which is integral to Singapore’s innovation eco-system.”

“Adopting an operations-based approach, pilot projects at the Digital Service CoE will give us the opportunity to engage with industry experts in the testing and developing of innovative, needs-focused services – allowing us to deploy our expertise to other markets in the Asia Pacific region and beyond”, said Dr. Hauser. The first example of one such project involves solutions catered for smart homes, with TÜV SÜD testing functional safety, cyber security, as well as the reliability and interoperability of components and installations within the household.

The Digital Service CoE in Singapore is a key initiative of TÜV SÜD’s 150th anniversary celebrations in 2016 – and is the first operations-focused CoE for Digital Service. With their dedicated Digital Service team providing cutting-edge expertise in addressing safety, functionality, reliability, interoperability, security (office and industrial), and analytics (monitoring and big data), companies can realize the potential of today’s digital transformation initiatives while remaining safe, secure, and competitive.
